Lead By Example

I saw this advert on a local banking service. They were advertising a new service for their users.
The phrase actually caught my attention. It says, " Lead by Example - Some times, setting a standard means being it. "

It is so true. If you are a leader, you should not just preach. You should lead the rest with example. I have seen a leader complaints that his members takes so frequent breaks. But he failed to realize that he himself taking frequent smoke and coffee break. There is no point expecting others to follow a standard which we ourselves unable to attain.

Think about it. :)

Tips to stay on Job!!

Sometimes, the pressure becomes so unbearable in office until you tend to take it very personally and overact. Most people always forget that our JOB is supposed to be a part of our daily life. NOT the other way around. Anyway, how to keep cool while at work? Some tips follows

1) Always learn to say "NO". - Doing a favor is good sometimes. But at the same time, you have to do it only during your free time and not at the expense of your work. There will always be some people in your office who are like to go around and look for potential people to "assist" them in their work. So, learn to say NO once in a while but always do it in a very diplomatic way.

2) Dont Over Promise - I have seen many people does this. Dont promise something that you are pretty sure that you cant do. Dont say OK to your boss to prepare project papers during the weekends when you already promised your wife a weekend outing. If you can't do it right, explain it well before the due or start of a task so that it can be re-arranged or re-assigned. It's better than you giving up at the last moment or worst after the due time.

3) Eat your Food - No matter what, dont ever skip your meals. Many people does it. You by skipping your meal ; are not doing any good for anybody. Firstly, your body and brain will be low on energy thus poor productivity and 2nd, it's your break time. Use it. The reason why we have break time is so that you can give a "break" to your brain , body and eyes to rest before continue it's work.

4) Take a break! - It's good that if you can take a short break once a while. Just a 5 mins short break in between your long emails or meetings. Trust me, it helps to "refresh" your view on problems and matters. Just take a slow walk to pantry or look out at your office window etc.

5) Dont do multitasking - You are not a PC. Dont ever try to do more than 1 tasks at the same time. Prioritize your work and start with the most urgent / critical tasks and move down. Best way is to list down your tasks at the beginning of the day so that you know what is expected from you for that day. With this, you will not promise anything new or take up any new assignments also.
And lastly, learn to enjoy your job. Your work is the biggest part of your daily life. Dont let it be a nightmare. If it is, maybe perhaps it's time for you to move on.

Cheers.

66-Year-Old is World's Oldest to Deliver Triplets

She is 66 years old and she is still doing it!! :D LOL. Hat's Off to the husband! :P

66–year–old woman has become the oldest known mother of triplets after she gave birth to two boys and a girl here on May 29, 44 years after her marriage to Deva Singh (64). “Bhateri Devi of Satrod Village in Hisar district conceived with in–vitro fertilisation (IVF) technique at National Fertility Centre here,” Dr Anurag Bishnoi, who was the treating IVF specialist, said. Bhateri conceived in her third attempt and became a mother for the first time. “For the first two attempts, only two embryos were transferred in each cycle. But in the third attempt, three embryos were transferred in her uterus, resulting in the birth of three children by Caesarean section,” Bishnoi said. Bhateri was born on May 21, 1944, in Madina village of Rohtak, as confirmed by the birth certificate issued by Rohtak district hospital, he said. “As the proof of her age is well–documented, she becomes the most aged female of the world to give birth to triplets,” he said. Her husband Deva Singh said he married twice after marrying Bhateri as she was unable to produce children. But he had no children from the other two wives either. “It is the eldest wife who has made me proud and given me a heir. Old is gold,” Deva Singh said with a smile.

Rapidshare Premium Account in Malaysia

Rapidshare is one of the major file hosting provider currently. Different types of files can be found here. Ranging from movies, songs, programs, documents, ebook etc. They do provide free access to the files but at a much lower speed and limited download slots. And most of the time, the slots are usually used up.

SO, if you are a heavy downloader, you may consider getting a premium account on Rapidshare.

How do you get it?

1) Getting an account

There are number of resellers in Malaysia that provides premium accounts. One good thing is, you can use maybank2u to purchase from them.
At the time of this posting, the cost of a premium account :

30Days = RM 36.50
90Days = RM 88.50
180Days = RM 159.50
1 Year = RM 283.50

I have their service personally twice and they delivered the account details within 24hours on both occasion. Pretty reliable.

2) So, you have a premium account. What’s next?

There are few sites where you can search for files hosted on rapidshare. Such as rapidshare1 [http://www.rapidshare1.com/] and rapid2me [http://rapid4me.com/]. But normally, I will use different sites to get what I’m looking for. Go ahead and google for it.

3) How do I download?

I prefer to use IDM [ Internet Download Manager - http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/] to download from any sites. With this, you can pause or resume downloads at anytime. Get the rapidshare link from the sites and download it with IDM.

4) But the download speed is still slow?

Sometimes, the download speed can be slow due to various reasons that I don't wish to talk here. :) Anyway, one way to fix this is, convert your url into IP based. You can use this free service provided by RS2IP [http://rs2ip.anonymailz.com/]. This website basically converts your rapidshare urls into ip. Use the ip url instead and you can see better download speed.

5) Anything else?

There are lots of forum out there that shares rapidshare files among it’s member. Ask around or google for it. One good example is ForumW [http://www.forumw.org/].

Happy Downloading!! :)

How to write in Tamil on Facebook

Sometimes, I do feel like write in tamil on facebook. Being from a tamil education background, I enjoy do that and I feel we all should be since number of people who can write and read Tamil language are pretty much low nowadays.
Anyway, if you feel like want to write in Tamil [ Or any other major languages from Indian Continental ], may try this.
There is this free online editor that can help us to do this. Check out http://quillpad.com/tamil/

*** Edited - The website is no longer active. But you may use http://www.google.com/transliterate/Tamil

From the website itself,
Quillpad is a free online Indian language typing tool. You can type in Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali and Nepali. For example, when you type 'neenga eppadi irukkinga' in Tamil, Quillpad will convert it directly into Tamil script. If you write a word like 'nalan', first n should become 'ந' and the second n should become 'ன'. Quillpad will intelligently do that for you. No need to use shift keys or to memorize any key mappings. So 'à®°ாத்திà®°ி' can be written by typing 'rathri', 'raathiri' or 'ratri'. Quillpad can also predict if multiple words are possible for your input. You can click on the word to select from those options. In addition Quillpad allows you to type English words freely in between Tamil words. It intelligently transliterates them into Tamil.
It takes some practise before you get used to it. Give it a try and say "வணக்கம்" on your next Facebook post. :)

People in power

Being around people in power and seeing them misusing it for a wrong reason reminds me of Uncle Ben’s famous advice to Spidey [aka Spiderman], With Great Power, comes great responsibility. And how so true is it.

We often forget that people being a simple human makes mistake. Even spidey did some big time mess-ups during his adventures. There is practically no way to ensure 100% error free system if human is a vital part of it. No matter how simple or how frequent he is doing it, sooner or later he will make a mistake. He can’t help it. That’s the fundamental building block of a human being. That’s how civilization as we know today exist. People make mistake; people learn from it and try not to do it again.

So next time, please think twice before you make the decision especially if your decision has great impact on another human being. Think what spidey would do if he is you! J

The Simpsons Arcade Game - Windows Mobile Smartphone

"Donuts. Is there anything they can't do?"

That's one of the famous quotes from longest running TV animation / cartoon, "The Simpsons". One of my all time favorite of course. And my life long search came to an end when I finally found a Simpsons Game for WinMo / Smartphone devices.

"The Simpsons Arcade" was released by EA Mobile early this year for both WinMO and Iphones. The graphic is just plain 2D as it always been to keep the originality i believe and a very simple story line. Basically, you will be helping Homer to chase after a mysterious donuts. Little that he knows, the donut holds the key to a devious scheme by none other than Mr Burn and his gang. So, Homer will be facing obstacles along his way in 6 different levels. It's pretty simple and you can finish the game in less than an hour. However, the most important is the fact I can have my most favorite Tv series on my mobile phone :)

Note : If you would like to have this game, feel free to drop me a line.

You may try this the next time you setting up OoO messages. :)

1- I am currently out at a job interview and will reply to you if I fail to get the position. Be prepared for my mood.

2- You are receiving this automatic notification because I am out of the office. If I was in, chances are you wouldn’t have received anything at all.

3- Sorry to have missed you but I am at the doctors having my brain removed so that I may be promoted to management.

4- I will be unable to delete all the unread, worthless emails you send me until I return from vacation on 5/18. Please be patient and your mail will be deleted in the order it was received.

5- Thank you for your email. Your credit card has been charged $5.99 for the first ten words and $1.99 for each additional word in your message.

6- The e-mail server is unable to verify your server connection and is unable to deliver this message. Please restart your computer and try sending again. (The beauty of this one is that when you return, you can see how many in-duh-viduals did this over and over).

7- Thank you for your message, which has been added to a queuing system. You are currently in 352nd place and can expect to receive a reply in approximately 19 weeks.

8- Please reply to this e-mail so I will know that you got this message.

9- I am on holiday. Your e-mail has been deleted.

10- Hi. I’m thinking about what you’ve just sent me. Please wait by your PC for my response.

11- Hi! I’m busy negotiating the salary for my new job. Don’t bother to leave me any messages.

12- I’ve run away to join a different circus.

13- AND, FINALLY, ABSOLUTELY THE BEST: I will be out of the office for the next 2 weeks for medical reasons. When I return, please refer to me as ‘Loretta’ instead of ‘Anthony’.

Free Apps : WinUtilities

After sometime, your windows box will start to show signs of aging. After long hours of surfing, installation/removal of applications and so on, you started to feel your PC is slowing down. It boots up longer than it used to and the memory always seems to be hogged by funny processes.

The good news is, instead of going thru painful process of re-installing your OS, you can try to fix your box by cleaning up the junks, clear up registry , remove unwanted apps, defrag etc. You can use different tools to do these tasks or you can just go ahead and get this "All-in-One" WinUtilities. It's a complete solution for PC optimization & System cleaner. The most importantly, It's FREE! :)

It does almost everything you need to keep your PC healthy. It can clean up your usage history [ IE , documents etc ], Registry and temp files which usually takes up unnecessery space off your drives. You can also defrag your filesystem for better performance. You can even try to recover files that you have accidently deleted etc.

So, give it a try and postpone your next format. :)

NoData - Manage Data Connection on your Windows Mobile Phones

I never really did sign-up for any data plan. Mainly because, I hardly use it except for occasionally. For those moments, I usually just get one of those hourly or Daily passes. But the problem is, being a WinMo [ Windows Mobile ] device, it's full of widgets [ Weather , News etc ] and applications which connects to data networks so very often and sometimes even without your knowledge.

It was a problem for me as well due to high cost for data rates in Malaysia until I came across this little tool developed by one of the admins @ Modaco [http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/]. It does what the title says, limits data access of the mobile device. It really come in handy especially if you are "roaming".

So, if you are not planning to get one of those expensive data plan but in love with WinMo devices, you should have this tool. On top of all, It's for free! :)

Note : If you really like the tool, please consider making a donation to the owner.

Tower Defense - Windows Mobile Game

Defense my Tower! That’s what I’m doing whenever I can find some free time. J Tower defense is a popular arcade/console type of game which was pretty popular back in the days. This game is being distributed by Color Stone Ltd [ http://www.stonegames.net/ ]. As the name suggest, you need to defense your tower or base from incoming enemy soldiers , tanks , fighter jets and bombers. You can do that with help of 6 different type of towers such as artillery guns, flame throwers , lighting striker etc. You can place these things in a very strategic ways to navigate your enemies from your base to yours. While you gaining money by “destroying” your enemies, you can use the cash to upgrade your weapons. More upgrade you gets ; the faster your can bring down your enemy tankers.

One thing I can say, once you get a grip on this, it’s pretty much very addictive. Though it looks like it was developed for HTCs, but it works extremely well on my Omnia i8000 thanks to it’s wide screen. However, the game did crashed couple of times once I reached >100th level. Nevertheless, it is surely deserves 5 stars!!

Note : it requires Ms compact net framework 3.5 to work.

Sad to see people with double face

I knew all the while people does has double face. Have you seen people who acts differently infront of you and then totally a 360' change when you are not around.
Recently I have found such few people around me at work place. The ironic thing is, I'm so close with few of them and treating them more than a colleague. But never knew it was all just a cover up. Though I don't really care much about it but it's kinda hurt to see things like this. And these things can really mess up the trust we have on each other. I'm not sure if the way I see these people will change but I hope not. Nevertheless, I have to be extra careful in letting people walk into my circle of trust.

Religion!?

Religion – It creates more problems instead of solving it. It’s really sad to see people fights over matters in the name of god. I’m not an atheist, but I do wish everybody else in world is.
